The Nature Dose
About two hours a week in green or blue space is associated with a step-change in reported health and wellbeing — one of the cheapest interventions in this entire Codex.
How it works
A 20,000-person study found the wellbeing jump at ≥120 min/week in nature, regardless of how it was split. Mechanisms stack: attention restoration (soft fascination lets directed attention recover), lower rumination (reduced subgenual prefrontal activity after nature walks), light exposure, and gentle movement.
The practice
Bank two hours across the week however life allows — a park lunch, a weekend trail, tea in the garden. Leave the headphones off sometimes; the soundscape is part of the dose.
The tradition
Attention Restoration Theory; shinrin-yoku (forest bathing)
