Ashwagandha — The Steadying Root
Ashwagandha meaningfully lowers perceived stress and cortisol and improves sleep quality in randomized trials.
How it works
Withanolides modulate the HPA (stress) axis, reducing cortisol output; lower evening cortisol supports deeper sleep and, indirectly, collagen preservation.
The practice
Traditional use: 300–600 mg root extract with warm milk or water in the evening, in cycles of 8–12 weeks.
The tradition
Ayurvedic Rasayana (rejuvenative)
