Sound Baths & Healing Frequencies
Immersive sound — singing bowls, gongs, sustained tones — reliably drops listeners into deep relaxation; one small trial found 528 Hz music lowered cortisol where 440 Hz did not.
How it works
Sustained, predictable, low-information sound gives the salience network nothing to scan for, allowing the default relaxation response to surface; slow amplitude swells entrain breathing. The specific-frequency claims (432/528 Hz) remain thinly evidenced — the deep-listening state itself is where the effect lives.
The practice
Lie down, 15–30 minutes with bowls, a recorded sound bath, or Cheerayu's Sanctuary tones. Treat it as listening meditation: when the mind drifts, return to the texture of the sound.
The tradition
Nada Yoga; contemporary sound-therapy practice
Cautions
- ⚠ Keep volume moderate — relaxation never requires loudness.

Inversions & The Circulation Glow
Gentle inversions (legs-up-the-wall, downward dog) briefly boost facial circulation and deeply relax the nervous system.
Yoga Nidra — Non-Sleep Deep Rest
Guided body-scan rest restores energy, reduces anxiety, and can partially offset short sleep.
Om — The Vibration of Voice
Chanting — Om, mantra, or simple sustained vowels — calms the nervous system through the voice itself, not the words.
Binaural Beats — Honest Reading
Two slightly different tones, one per ear, create a perceived 'beat' that may nudge the brain toward relaxed states — a real phenomenon with genuinely mixed evidence.
