Inversions & The Circulation Glow
Gentle inversions (legs-up-the-wall, downward dog) briefly boost facial circulation and deeply relax the nervous system.
How it works
Elevating the legs aids venous and lymphatic return, reducing facial puffiness; the position triggers the baroreflex, slowing heart rate — which is why legs-up-the-wall is a classic pre-sleep pose.
The practice
Viparita Karani: lie with legs up a wall, arms wide, 5–10 minutes with slow breathing. Evening or after long standing/sitting.
The tradition
Restorative Hatha Yoga
Cautions
- ⚠ Skip full inversions with glaucoma, uncontrolled hypertension, or late pregnancy — legs-up-the-wall is the gentle option.
