Sunlight — Dose Makes the Medicine

Morning light anchors your body clock and mood; unprotected midday UV is the single largest external driver of skin aging.

How it works

Morning outdoor light (even cloudy) sets circadian timing via retinal cells, improving sleep and energy. UV radiation, however, generates free radicals that fragment collagen — photoaging causes the majority of visible wrinkles.

The practice

Get 5–15 minutes of outdoor light within an hour of waking. Use broad-spectrum SPF on the face daily; hats and shade during peak UV.

The tradition

Chronobiology; dermatology

Cautions

  • ⚠ Never look at the sun.
  • ⚠ Some medications increase photosensitivity.
