Water & Skin — What's Actually True

Dehydration visibly dulls skin within a day; beyond correcting that, extra water yields diminishing returns — hydration is a floor to hold, not a lever to crank.

How it works

Skin turgor and plumpness track body water status, so under-hydration shows quickly as dullness and accentuated fine lines. Studies adding ~2L/day in under-hydrated people show measurable improvements in skin physiology; in already-hydrated people, little changes. The barrier's moisture is then guarded from the outside — humectants and occlusives — not by more drinking.

The practice

Anchor the floor: a large glass of warm water on waking, water with each meal, and urine the color of pale straw as your gauge. Herbal teas and watery foods count.

The tradition

Modern dermatology; Ayurvedic ushnodaka (warm-water) habit
