Honest Detox — Support the Organs That Already Do It
You already own a world-class detoxification system — liver, kidneys, gut, lymph, lungs, skin. The honest practice is not buying a cleanse but removing what burdens these organs and supplying what they run on.
How it works
The liver's two-phase chemistry neutralizes compounds and hands them to bile and stool (which is why fiber matters — it escorts them out); kidneys filter what water dilutes; lymph moves only when muscles move it; sweat carries its own small share; and deep sleep is when the brain's clearance runs. Commercial 'detoxes' rarely add anything to this — but daily inputs genuinely help: fiber, water, movement, sweat, cruciferous and bitter foods, and fewer incoming burdens (alcohol, additive-heavy products, smoke).
The practice
Daily, quietly: warm water on waking, fiber at every meal, a real sweat several times a week, movement that squeezes the lymph (walking, twists, inversions), bitter greens and crucifers on the plate, alcohol rare, and the deep sleep that lets the night crew work. Tongue scraping and dry brushing honor the same instinct at the surface.
The tradition

Cautions
- ⚠ Be skeptical of products promising rapid detox — the organ systems above are the real mechanism.
- ⚠ Unexplained persistent symptoms deserve medical attention, not a cleanse.

Water & Skin — What's Actually True
Dehydration visibly dulls skin within a day; beyond correcting that, extra water yields diminishing returns — hydration is a floor to hold, not a lever to crank.
The Kitchari Reset
A few days of simple mono-diet — rice, split mung, spices, ghee — is Ayurveda's gentle alternative to harsh cleanses: digestive rest without deprivation.
Garshana — Dry Brushing for Skin and Lymph
A few minutes of dry brushing before the shower exfoliates, wakes circulation, and gives the sluggish morning lymph a mechanical start — an old ritual with a sensible mechanism.
Collagen — How Skin Keeps Its Structure
Skin collagen declines about 1% a year from the mid-twenties; sleep, sun protection, vitamin C, protein, and not smoking protect it — and topical retinoids and oral collagen peptides have supporting evidence.
